2008 POSTER CONTEST WINNERS Slide Show from the June 16, 2008 Awards Ceremony held at the State Capitol (wmv. 22,710 kb)      A Very Special Thank You to Nina Ritson from DAS for    creating the perfect posters from the children's artwork and    also to Michael Guimond from DAS for printing the posters.      We had an overwhelming response to this contest with 455    entries.  Judging was based on four age groups: Kindergarten, First and Second Grades Third, Four and Fifth Grades Sixth Seventh and Eight Grades and Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh and Twelveth Grades    It was a very difficult decision for the committee to select,    but the four posters below are the winners.       Each poster contest winner will receive $200 from DCF and a    weekend getaway for their family courtesy of the Connecticut    Commission on Culture and Tourism.      Congratulations to this years contest winners.  Here are the    four winning posters: {Nicholas Satta, Grade 2}   {Nicholas} The Weekend Getaway Package for Nicholas, Grade 2, included Quassy Amusement Park Golf Center of CT Lake Compounce The Golden Age of Trucking Museum Holiday Inn Grand – Waterbury   {Nicole Gagnon}   {Nicole} The Weekend Getaway for Nicole, Grade 5, included CT River Museum Essex Steam Train & River Boat Simon’s Market Place in Chester or Blue Oar in Haddam Gillette Castle State Park Inn at Middletown   {Maya Wilson}   {Maya} The weekend Getaway for Maya, Grade 7, included Mystic Aquarium Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center Lyman Allyn Art Museum Submarine Force Museum/Store Best Western Hotel Mystic   {Andrew Hooker}   {Andrew}          The Weekend Getaway for Andrew, grade 9, included Bridgeport Bluefish Bruce Museum of Art & Science CT’s Beardsley Zoo The Maritime Aquarim Double Tree Hotel Norwalk HONORABLE & SPECIAL MENTION Posters Previous Year's Family Day Posters

Family Day Beliefs: Families are the greatest natural resources to their children.  Families have primary responsibility for the well being of their children. Family support programs help families to successfully parent their children and should be available to all families who need assistance The development of children and their families is influenced by the culture, community and society in which they live. Families know their children best and raise them according to their history, beliefs, cultural background and the unique characteristics of their children Families are in the best position to know their own strengths and needs.  Building on the capacities of families helps them to raise healthy children. The challenges of parenthood change as children grow and family circumstances change.  Families may need different supports at difference stages of development Families are empowered to make good decisions when they have access to information about services, supports and resource.  When families make good choices and take action, they improve the well-being of their children, families and communities.
